I think my favorite thing about the book, especially during this day and age where people make excuses for their behavior, was that the author didn't excuse her blindness or use it as a crutch for not being able to do something. And the real Lightning had a mishap that was devastating for the show. The movie only had Red Lips and Lightning, but here were five horses total. It was interesting hearing about some of the different horses. I won't go into detail about that because headed spoil it, but it was quite tragic also.
One more interesting thing was the acrobatic accident with the rigging collapsing. Carver actually had a very good relationship with his son Al and daughter Lorena. Carver treated Sonora as a daughter, that her sister Arnette also dove, and their mother took care of her kids (sorta). The real story is very different from the Disney version seen in theaters in the mid-1990's.
